  13. This document describes how to configure virus detection programs so that they work properly with AutoDouble™.

  15. We will be revising AutoDoubler to make it easier for AutoDoubler and Virus Checkers to work together.

  17. Background
  18. ----------
  19. As part of its normal operation, AutoDoubler runs in the background compressing files. It may need to create applications, INITs, control panels, etc as part of its normal operation.

  21. As an INIT, it currently runs in whatever application is active. For this reason, virus detection programs may report "suspicious" activity in whatever application you are running when AutoDoubler is active.

  23. It is necessary to reconfigure some virus detection programs to allow AutoDoubler to work properly. The rest of the document discusses specific virus programs.

  25. We are improving AutoDoubler so that it will work better with virus programs. A future version will incorporate the improvements.

  28. GateKeeper (Chris Johnson)
  29. ----------
  30. This shareware virus detection program is currently incompatible with AutoDoubler because it objects to most of AutoDoubler's activities. For now, you must choose to use either AutoDoubler or GateKeeper, but not both. We are working on a solution as quickly as possible.

  33. S.A.M. Intercept (Symantec)

  35. AutoDoubler will work fine with SAM if you configure it as follows. First, bring up the SAM control panel and click on the Configure button:

  47. Set SAM to "Custom" level. In the picture below, items that are not checked must not be checked in order for AutoDoubler to work properly. In other words, "Add Startup Document", "Create Application" and "Bypass resource handler" must not be checked; all other items can be set as desired:

  67. Alternatively, SAM Intercept can also be set to "Basic" level. AutoDoubler will NOT work correctly if SAM is set to "Standard" or "Advanced" levels.

  71. ------
  72. We have tested version 3.5.1 of Virex with AutoDoubler and determined that they work correctly together in most situations. However, if you are running System 7 and have FileShare turned on, Virex may cause a system freeze. The solution is to not turn on FileShare.

  75. Other virus programs

  77. Other virus programs may or may not let AutoDoubler work properly, depending on how they are configured. We will update this document as we discover correct configurations.
